Dandora is a Nairobi neighbourhood, parts of it slum, and hosts some of the roughest places in Nairobi. In Dandora lies East Africa’s dumpsite, around which much of the economic activity comes from collecting trash.
Dandora Hiphop City is an organization that works to keep youth out of criminal activity through cultural, environmental and social engagement. Dandora Hiphop City frequently organizes concerts, festivals and community events that bring young people together around important issues that directly affect their lives, often filtered through the beat of hip hop. While rap is sometimes associated with gangs and criminal activity, Dandora Hiphop City defies the stereotype, using the music genre as a tool towards something good.
Madigolo is a young female rapper living in Dandora. The most salient woman in the group, she carries an important voice and serves as a role model for young girls in Dandora.
